Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be provided with assignments each week to complete. The assignments should be completed independently and submitted to the teacher via Outschool messaging system. Homework may also be given. Teacher will provide corrections and feedback in a timely manner.Assessment

In Part 2 (of 2) of this FLEX class, students will learn, review and practice crucial and required topics of the pre-algebra middle school math, including equations, inequalities, functions, statistics, radicals, geometry and more. The Semester 2 class is broken into 7 chapters of pre-algebra. Each chapter consists of 5-8 subsections. ***The teacher will provide videos for each subsection of each chapter. Students should watch each video and complete the assignments that will be posted to the classroom. Completed assignments should be completed and sent back to the teacher via the Outschool message system. Please note that anything posted directly to the classroom can be seen by all enrolled learners. ***This class is intended to be used as a full curriculum, full-instruction class. Topics and lessons will be taught, practiced and reviewed. Notes, resources, worksheets, videos and review material will be provided and posted in the Outschool classroom. This class will contain knowledge checks in the form of quizzes and/or tests. Tests will be given after each completed chapter. Students will complete these activities in class through Quizizz. This class is best for any student ages 10 to 15, or those students looking to practice the pre-algebra middle school math objectives or skills. Students do not need to know the concepts or topics of the class beforehand. We will learn and review in class.
Learning Goals
By the end of this pre-algebra course, students will have bridged the gap from basic math to the abstract concepts. Students will be able to solve problems using proportions, fractions, decimals and percents. Students will be able to solve business and consumer problems including discounts, markups, commission and profit. Students will be able to solve equations and inequalities that contain variables. Students will be able to use coordinate geometry. Students will be able to interpret data using probability, patterns and statistics to make predictions. Students will understand apply geometric relationships.

Students will complete some homework and assessment activities through Quizizz. Students will need to access the URL: www.quizziz.com. Students do not need to create an account or log in to use this resource. In the classroom, students will be sent a link and join code. Students using one device can click on the link to join the game, or use the code to access the assignment or assessment. Only students enrolled will be permitted to play or participate.

This curriculum was developed by and used with the permission from Ms. Ashley, an SBA teacher. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
