Practice Makes Permanent - Set Goals, Build Habits, & Improve Your Musicianship
What's included
Homework
2-4 hours per week. This class is all about setting goals and building good practice habits. Learners will set just-right goals for them, and adjust as they learn. The more students choose to practice and interact with the class with videos, practice logs, etc. the more they will get out of the class. Most musicians in this age should expect to practice an average of 30 minutes a day.Class Experience
Learning an instrument is so much fun. . .at first. What can you do when the excitement wears off and you don't want to practice? In this class, practicing becomes fun again. No need for nagging and reminders. You'll want to practice your instrument! No matter what instrument you are learning, or what level of playing you're at, you will improve. Plus, you will set goals, build good habits, and complete fun practice challenges. You'll learn to practice with a purpose. You'll also track your progress and see your playing improve. This is a flexible schedule class, so you'll be learning and practicing on your own time. The fun starts with the interaction you'll have with the teacher and other learners. This class is more fun the more you post and share! The more you do, the better you get. Here's how it works: Every week will feature a quick video to get you excited about the practice habit you'll be working on. You'll share your goals for the week, and get started practicing. You'll get a template for a practice log that you can fill out and share. You'll also add your practice minutes to a shared Google Sheet. Working as a team with other learners, you'll see your collective practice minutes go up. See who holds the record! You'll interact with the teacher and the other learners by: - Sharing your practice goals in the Outschool classroom. - Posting a video of your best playing, every day that you practice. (You'll really see improvement! Tangible results!) - Replying to other learner videos with the two stars and one wish method. (We'll talk about what that means.) - Receiving teacher feedback and encouragement to keep you motivated. - Completing fun and silly practice challenges and suggesting challenges of your own. - Tracking your practice minutes and sharing with the group. - Celebrating your success with a virtual recital. Weekly topics and practice challenges: - Week 1 (June 7) - Quality or Quantity? - Learn about goal-setting for practice time and purposeful practice. - Week 2 (June 14) - Tackling the Tricky Parts. - Identifying and improving a specific phrase or skill. - Week 3 (June 21) - Change the Venue! - How do changes in place and position set you up for good practice and keep things interesting? - Week 4 (June 28) - Memorization and the Victory Lap! - Share a solo and celebrate your improvement.
