Class Experience
In this one-time 30 minute private lesson, the dancer will receive training tailored to his or her needs and dance goals. Topics covered may include technical correction for barre and center, inclusive of leaps, jumps, and turns. Artistic development and improvisation can also be explored. Private lessons are a great time to receive extra support before an audition, performance, or competition. Dancers are welcome to book private lessons as needed and as their schedule allows. (i.e. you may schedule two back-to-back lessons, so that you receive an hour of private instruction) Class Rules: *While every reasonable effort will be made by the teacher to ensure exercises are conducted in a safe manner, this is an online dance course and parents should be nearby their dancers to monitor their activity and to ensure their safety. *Dancers need to leave their cameras on for the entire lesson. *Dancers should wear form-fitting attire that allows them to move freely. Leggings and a tank top work well if you are not ready to purchase dance attire. *All dancers should be respectful of each other and of the learning environment. *Have fun and learn something new! Please note: *By enrolling in this course, the dancer and dancer's legal guardian agree that the dancer meets the prerequisites for the course. They further understand that there are risks inherent to any physical activity and they agree to assume full responsibility for any risks, injuries or damage known or unknown that the dancer might incur as a result of participating in this online course. *After much research and trial and error, the teacher has chosen to use two cameras, a microphone, and a mixer as the tech set-up for this class. This protects the quality of the audio and controls for some latency, as rhythm and musicality are extremely important in the study of dance. Dancers are expected to participate in Zoom's "Gallery View" at all times. Not only does this allow students to see both of the teacher's cameras (one is full-body), this is an interactive class that encourages students to interact and learn from one another in addition to the teacher. This is a critical component of classroom learning. Your dancer may find that he or she wants to pin the full-body video and mirror a tablet to the TV to get the best online classroom experience. *It is the teacher's policy not to share classroom recordings. *All information in this course description and the course itself is the sole intellectual property of the teacher.
Learning Goals
The dancer will receive ballet instruction and supportive corrections to help him or her achieve his or her personal dance goals.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
As ballet is a physical activity in addition to an art, adults should be nearby to supervise class completion in a safe area. While the instructor will take all reasonable measures to explain how to safely execute each exercise, this is an online course and it will require some adult supervision to minimize risk to the dancer.
Supply List
Please come to class from a safe space clear of any obstacles. It is best to not take class on carpet, as toes may stick and injury may occur even when wearing socks or ballet shoes. Ideally, dancers will attend class from an area with a hard floor and ballet shoes so as to limit injury. Hard floors with bare feet may also be acceptable, but dancers will need to exercise care to prevent injury. Class attire should be form-fitting so that the teacher can correct placement, but clothing should not restrict movement. Leggings and a tank top work well if you don't feel ready to purchase dance attire! If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask!
