Class Experience

While learning to draw the world the key is practice. This will make new knowledge permanent in our minds. In this class, we will have time to practice drawing the world. We can also take time to learn how to spell things, work on specific parts that cause problems, etc.

Class structure:
This class is like a tutor session for learning to draw the world and its continents and countries. The class will help us to learn the shapes and locations of the different states and countries. It will also help us to learn the absolute location of each country and its relative location to other countries and states. This class will also increase our knowledge regarding country names and their capitals as well as identify major bodies of water. We will begin class by asking what continent or country each student would like to practice. Each student will then draw and label as much as they know. The student will begin drawing the continent they have chosen to practice. If they need a reference map to trace or see, that is okay. As they draw, they can ask questions to resolve any issues that they may have. One student may not be able to remember how to draw a particular place. Another student may not remember how to label the states in the northeast. In each case, the teacher will answer the questions and together the teacher and student will discuss ways to remember the difficult information in the future. If other students are working quietly, the teacher and student may use a breakout room to keep from interrupting the others. As the class continues, the teacher will continue asking questions and the students will continue drawing. The goal of the class is to increase our geography knowledge regarding the countries and their locations and names. The more we draw, the less we will need reference material. The material will be memorized!

Class schedule:
Topic one:
Practice drawing the area of the world the student chooses to practice
Topic Two:
Practice drawing the area of the world the student chooses to practice

Note: The learning in this tutoring class is student directed. Each time the students come to class, they will practice drawing the continent or area of the world of their choice. No prior class is required to join the ongoing session at anytime. If you are practicing to draw the world then you are welcome to practice in this class. If you would like to learn to draw the world, please take my learn to draw the world classes.

The student is free to take as many practice sessions as they need. Each class session will be like a tutoring session used to practice drawing and labeling the map.

Learning Goals

The student will progressively learn how to draw the world from memory by continuing to practice the new material learned in other classes.
The class will help us to learn the shapes and locations of the different states and countries. It will also help us to learn the absolute location of each country and its relative location to other countries and states. This class will also increase our knowledge regarding country names and their capitals as well as identify major bodies of water.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I have a Master's in Geography and almost ten years of teaching/tutoring experience. I have enjoyed teaching other geography and mapping classes on Outschool with great success.
Supply List
The student should bring 2-3 sheets of paper, a pencil, and an eraser.
If the student has a map that they use to refer to when they draw, they can bring that as well. However, I will have maps available to look at in class. Eventually, the student will not need to refer to the map because they will know it by heart.
Language of Instruction
English
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
The "Draw the World" series by Kristin Draeger is very helpful for many, but this class is open to anyone practicing drawing the world.
