Pop Into Reading: Let's Rhyme & Blend CVC Words

In this 4 week class, beginning readers will strengthen early reading skills by engaging with others, while learning to segment & blend CVC words. We will also read & discuss emergent level stories or sentences.

Beginner Level
Welcome Families – Are you looking for an interactive engaging beginning reading class for your 4–7-year-old? If so, then you have found it! This class is geared toward learners who know alphabet letters and sounds. Learners should be ready to move onto blending letter sounds to read words. 

Whether you are looking to supplement an in-person program or looking to add to your homeschool curriculum, then do not hesitate to join today. A certified teacher will guide learners through building confidence and critical skills to become a successful reader.  This four week class gives you the opportunity to check out my teaching style.

If you are satisfied with this four week class, please consider enrolling in my ongoing class that has a similar format as this class.    
 
 
During each session learners will enhance emergent reading skills through songs, games, and decodable stories. We will use interactive slides, hands on materials, and video songs.  Please have a dry erase board & marker available for your learner to use during class. Paper and pencil/markers work too. An optional printable worksheet will be posted to use as a follow up activity to practice what we learn during each session.



Typical Class Routine:

~Greeting & Introductions
~Alphabet letter & letter sound song to review & prepare for session activities.  
~Identify letters that will be used to spell, write, and read words during the session.
~Review of left to right direction for reading words.
~ Chain letter sounds to blend words.
~Read decodable sentences or a short decodable book to practice reading skills. 
~Spell, write and read words (student can use air writing if they do not have a dry erase board or paper/pencil).  We will discuss the similarities and patterns in the words we create.



Class Expectations for Learners: 

~Have fun!
~Follow directions (Use your listening ears.) 
~Be respectful to everyone in class. (Use kind words.) 
~Be patient (wait patiently while others are talking.) 

Class Notes: 

~Class duration is 25 minutes (class could end a few minutes early or go over by a few minutes due to number of learners and the overall pace of the class depending on varying skill levels.)
~Please have a small dry erase board, eraser, and marker available to use during class time (paper and marker, pencil, or crayons work too!) These items are optional and are meant to enhance your child’s learning experience. 
~An optional printable worksheet will be posted to use as a follow up activity to practice what we learn during each session.

Class Polices:  

~Learners will be moved from the waiting room into the class at the scheduled start time.  If no learners are present, I will log out of the classroom after waiting for ten minutes.  
~Each class session will begin at the scheduled time even if learners are not present.   
~Parent/Caregivers are encouraged to be nearby off camera (to the side of the screen/camera as this is an Outschool policy.) to assist your learner with technical operations of the live session (sign-in, making sure camera is turned on, muting/unmuting if needed, and sign-off at the end) I usually do not mute learners, however, if there is a feedback noise or noise in the background such as a tv or someone talking on a phone then I will use the mute feature so that all can hear throughout the class. 
~Due to the number of learners and their pace moving through the planned activities, it is possible that we may end a few minutes early or go over by a few minutes. 
~I will follow the refund policy outlined on the Outschool website.

Other Details

Learning Needs
ESL students are encouraged to join as well as students needing extra support with early reading skills to become successful independent readers.
Pre-Requisites
Identifies most letters and letter sounds.
Supply List
Supplies are optional but are intended to provide hands on learning experience for developing reading skills.  I recommend that learners have a dry erase board, marker, and eraser, but paper and pencil/markers will work too.  A printable worksheet will be provided in the classroom to reinforce the word family we use during the session.
