Our favorite trainer has a problem! How can he win an Orange Islands gym badge if he doesn't understand the challenges? Confronted with a new set of twists and turns, Ash has to find help from his friends and trusty yellow Pokemon to even have a chance at winning. Can Ash overcome the islands' challenges? Let's find out in an activity-based book club designed for PokeFans! To keep in the spirit of an actual book club, we will start each meeting with a Socratic style discussion topic, followed by completing a summary writing or academic learning activity-based project (see weekly details below). Each class discussion will feature new vocabulary, literary terms, story plot, character types, and more. We will also dive into traditional book club discussions as well, such as "what do you think will happen next?" or "How can we improve upon the writer's point-of-view, here." Of course, there will be heaps of themed activities and PokeTalk as well. Remember, this is a class of PokeFans, discussion lengths will vary, and student participation is highly encouraged. Week One: Chapters 1- 3 (please read these chapters before class one) Class discussion: story, character, and plot predictions Introduction to the parts of a story (exposition, rising action, story climax & resolution) Chat Map Summary Writing Activity Week Two: Chapters 4-6 Let's talk about rising action, character types, traits, and story problem(s). Introduction to the parts of a story (rising action and story climax) Never Ending PokeBall Bookmark Week Three: Chapters 7-9 Let's investigate literary symbols: Did our main character solve the problem? Can we predict the ending? Introduction to the parts of a story (falling action and story resolution) Orange Island Badges Character Book Week Four: Chapter 10-11 (Finish our book!) Let's tie together all we've learned!
