US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Students will learn about rhyme schemes and review words that rhyme and word syllables. We will create 4 different poems, Autobiographical, Diamante, Question, and Acrostic. Skills shared will also include brainstorming, creativity icebreakers, even a bit of improvisation. Information will be shared through discussion, slides, revising, and group work. Poems will be read to the students during camp as well. Information will be shared through discussions, slides, additional poetry packet, and peer to peer discussion. Each day will follow this schedule: Welcome and overview 2-3 minutes Poem focus of the day 10-15 minutes Poem writing 30-35 minutes Review and prepare for tomorrow 5 minutes Day One: Improvisation icebreakers, rhyme scheme, syllables, and Acrostic poem Day Two: Rhyming words and Diamante poem Day Three: Synonyms, antonyms and Question poem Day Four: Autobiographical poem and free writing
Learning Goals
Students will take a deep look into four types of poems and stretch their self expression and creativity. Students will learn about rhyme schemes and review words that rhyme and word syllables. We will create four different poems, Autobiographical, Diamante, Question, and Acrostic. Skills shared will also include brainstorming, creativity icebreakers, even a bit of improvisation. This class allows campers to develop their use of adjectives and adverbs to create a work of art. We will have lots of fun!

Supply List
Paper, lined or unlined, pencil or pen, colored pencils or markers. I will post a packet in the classroom prior to the start of the class to accompany the in class activities and provide adjectives, adverbs, and rhyming words to help with poem writing.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I served the Director of Ancillary Services tasked with planning and executing summer and winter camps at a PK-12 school. I hold a degree in Psychology and an MBA, a 150-hour master teacher certificate for teaching English as a second language courses and have served as a college counselor for almost 5 years advising students and families on the college acceptance process. I have taught middle school, have been an academic administrator in a Pre-K 12 school and was a founding director of a Learning Center.
