Frederic Chopin was the first music composer to really understand how expressive the piano was, and his music is still held has a standard for piano compositions. He was called “The Poet of the Piano”, and his own peers (other now famous composers) acclaimed his skill and mastery. His unique journey influenced his music that can skill be appreciated today. Students will learn about his beginnings in Poland, which created a fierce patriotism reflected in his music. They will learn how he traveled from his homeland, never to really return again, and although a weak health shortened his life, he produced some of the most beautiful piano music. This class is very conversational, with quick quizzes throughout the class, to help students grow in their knowledge and appreciation of Chopin.
