In this ongoing class, we will meet live to explore a poem and create a related craft weekly.

Getting creative with crafts and poetry is an enjoyable part of literacy. In this class, learners will enjoy listening and reading a variety of poems. New poems and new themes will be read aloud each week and students will be encouraged to enjoy, react, respond, and look at the literacy behind each poem. Following the poem, we will begin to create a craft, prop, or puppet related to the poem's topic. No reading skills are necessary for this class and no previous exposure to poetry is necessary either. This class is an excellent way for students to enjoy poetry as well as learn literacy skills from poetry. We will talk about letters, letter sounds, rhyming words, sight words, and any other connections students may make in their learning. As each poem will become a familiar text for the students, they will be able to pull apart the letter, sounds, rhyming words, and so on. After being introduced to each poem, we will begin to create a craft that is related to the poem. Week of January 15: Happy New Year Week of January 22: Snowperson Week of January 29: Peace Week of February 5: Groundhog Week of February 12: Winter Week of February 19: Valentines Week of February 26: Rain to Rainbow Week of March 4: Tulip Garden Week of March 11: Plants Growing Week of March 18: Recycling Week of March 25: Earth Week of April 1: Pretty Flowers Week of April 8: Picnic Week of April 15: Hungry Monkey Week of April 22: Treasure Chest Week of April 29: Airplanes * More will be updated as the time approaches. Needed: Craft supplies such as markers, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, coloured construction paper, paper bags, popsicle sticks. I will post the week before what materials would be needed for the following week's class.

Supply List
Craft supplies such as markers, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, coloured construction paper, paper bags, popsicle sticks. I will post the week before what materials would be needed for the following week's class.
