Do you like to talk? Would you like to learn how to write a podcast? Would you like to learn how to record and/or publish a podcast? If the answer is YES - then this is class for you. In this 90 minute class we will cover different genres of podcasting, creating a podcast show themes, creating a title, how to write a podcast, how to record a podcast, and with parent approval our class can learn how to publish a podcast as well. The podcasting class will examine the podcasting software of Anchor (free) and touch on Audacity as well as GarageBand (all free). Our class will also look at the process for writing a podcast, finding topics, and creating a podcast. We will also examine how to become a podcaster. The majority of my professional career has been as a history and English educator. My knowledge in this field stems from having been a speech and debate coach, taught debate and public communication course (in public school and on Outschool), I have been a sports broadcaster/announcer, and the creation of my own published sports podcast as well. I am excited to bring my experiences into the classroom where students will have the opportunity to develop a hands on project of creating their own podcast. Class Topics/Activities: 1. Introductions 2. Interest in podcasting 3. Podcasting Technology 4. Introduce podcasting and the basics 5. Organization and Setup of a Podcast 6. Podcasting Topics, Genres, and Different Tones (a little public speaking - Informative, Narrative, Persuasion, and etc.) 7. Whole group and individual instruction on picking topics, organization of a podcast, picking a title, writing a podcast, and the technology.
Learning Goals
Students taking the podcasting class will learn a wide range of skills. Students will learn about different podcast genres. Public communication and speaking skills will be examine as well (delivery, tone, pitch, volume). This class will also provide skills in writing specifically to writing a podcast show (but some of the skills can be used for writing papers). The main topics focus on public speaking in the recording podcast format, technology for recording and publishing a podcast, creating a podcast, and publishing a podcast.
