Class Experience

Over four courses students will be given the structure on how to write an original production, a dramatic or comedic play, or musical. Students will be encouraged to write their own story to perhaps be performed on the stage. Students will be guided through this process to make a strong story, characters, and script layout. Students will interact in group discussions, and be evaluated on their individual work. Visual materials will be sent out before each class for the student to familiarize before class. My classes are safe, and encouraging space where students can feel comfortable exploring their creativity in an intimate setting. At the end of the four weeks, we'll present the work we did to each other in a virtual staged theatrical reading. This class is great for passionate writing and theater students, who wish to be challenged with their playwriting! This is a great course for students who may want to explore dramaturgy and musical composition at the collegiate level. However, no prior experience is necessary.

Week 1: "What makes a great play or musical?" & "Where and When"
Week 2: "Diving into Characters"& "Beginning-middle-end structure"
Week 3: "Scene/conflict brainstorming"* "Script layouts and publishing"& "Rough Draft: How can I fix this?"
Week 4: Presentations!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to organize their thoughts to create an original show by exploring professional writing techniques and resources that are utilized by the theater industry.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in Education from St. Thomas University
I love teaching private lessons! I specialize in voice, piano, and songwriting from beginner to advances in classical, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary music. I like to start each private lesson off with warm-ups and theory and then continue working through the lesson on repertoire that is appropriate for the student. I am especially good with sight-reading as well as preparing students for high school performing arts programs, summer camps, summerstock, and college auditions. I try to be positive in my teaching, but also constructive; to really help students become the best musicians they can be. Whether they are pursuing music and theater professionally or as a hobby. I want to provide my students with quality music lessons, just as I received quality music lessons growing up! I have ten years of experience teaching online and in private, parochial, charter, and public school settings primarily in urban environments and underserved communities. Currently, I serve as the Director of Choir and Musical Theatre at St. Thomas University, in Miami, FL. As a performer, my favorite performances include touring with Disney Live!, Nickelodeon at Sea, Carnival Cruiselines, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
