Class Experience

In this 30-minute class, students will the basics of learning how to play guitar. The workshop will culminate in students learning how to perform "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

Students must have an acoustic or electric guitar at home to participate.

In this workshop-style class, students will be on "mute" for the beginning portion of the class in which we will discuss:

- Three different types of guitars (Classical, Steel-String Acoustic, and Electric).
- Parts of the guitar
- How to hold the guitar
- How to tune the guitar (we will tune at least one string of the guitar today-- the high E string)
- How to hold a guitar pick
- Finger numbers on the left hand
- String numbers: what they mean and how to find them
- Frets and Fret numbers: what they are and how to find them
- How to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" using fret numbers

After the initial instruction, students will be unmuted and I will ask each student to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" for the class. No pressure here! It's only to help each student identify any problems and ask questions if needed.
