Students will be allotted $10,000 to invest into the stock market. They will compete against each other by buying and selling stocks and mutual funds that they feel will position them to grow their investment. Students will learn about the stock market through a simulated experience. Each student that participates will be given a fantasy amount of money to invest and work the market to try and grow their investments. Students will be able to compete against each other to build the best performing portfolio in a safe environment that will foster encouragement. Using a given pool of fantasy money to invest. This course will cover how to purchase stocks, sell stocks, through market orders and limit orders as well as understanding what commissions mean when buying and selling stocks.. The course will cover how to look up news on stocks and how to determine when companies will release quarterly reports and what those reports could mean on the future impact on businesses. The class will meet once a week online through outschool, however, students will have access to their portfolio to make trades during the entire duration of the four weeks. Each time we meet face to face, I will cover a topic to demonstrate how to manage their portfolios. I will teach by modeling different actions discussed as well as sectioning a time in each face to face meeting to address any questions students will have. I teach with a positive presence along with positive praise. My teaching style is built around curiosity and a love for learning. There will be moments where we will both learn together and I will demonstrate how to research when new curiosities come our way. Learners will get to interact with me face to face once a week. I will also be available to answer questions through the conversation portals provided by outschool. If students have questions outside of the meeting times, students can use this platform to asks questions. I will address the questions in a response as well as confirm understanding during our face to face meeting times. Learners will need to have a basic understanding of what a stock is. Students will also need a foundational understanding of multiplication and division as we will use these skills to determine how many shares of stock can be purchased.
Learning Goals
Students will learn nuances of the stock market through practical applications and real life experiences of the market with play simulated money. Students will learn how to buy stocks and sell stocks.

I am a public school teacher with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and History. I have taught many levels of math from grade 6 to Algebra 2 over the last decade. In the past 5 years, I have lead an advisory class at my school that focuses on the stock market. My classes are always full with students from many walks of life with a common interest of the stock market.
