Taxonomy Tales is a collection of classes each covering a major category of life on earth--from mollusks to cetaceans to marsupials! These classes can be taken in any order and do not build upon each other. Take one class or take them all! Students will be able to describe the group called "pinnipeds" and the main groups of animals it includes. They will be able to compare and contrast these different animals, sharing what they have in common even though they are so unique! Along the way, students will gain a deeper appreciation for taxonomy as a study and the diversity in the animal kingdom.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Natural Science with a minor in Sustainability Studies from the University of Florida. When I decided to become a teacher, I went to North Carolina State University to get my Master's in teaching science. I have worked in many places like aquariums, sanctuaries, and museums, with animals from poison dart frogs to snakes to jellies to spider monkeys.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Taxonomic categorizations are created using data of animal relatedness resulting from evolutionary lineages. Please note that evolution may be briefly mentioned as is in line with widely accepted theories of the secular scientific community.
