40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This Piano Princess class is intended for beginner pianists ages 6-10. Costumes are not required, but welcomed! In this class, students will learn the following: -Piano note names -Piano finger numbers -For the First Time in Forever (melody only) Class Structure: This course is kept small to create the most "hands-on" virtual experience possible! All students are encouraged to ask questions and play for me at any time for affirmation or critique. Students will attend class at their own keyboard or piano and actively participate. Mics will be muted for most of class, that way students can hear me and are not distracted by their classmates. I have two cameras, one with a side view and another with a close-up view of my hands. Students have the option to print materials before class, and class materials will be also shared to the screen for everyone to see. Student Interaction: Mics will be muted for most of class, meaning students will not interact with each other. However, students are allowed to ask questions at any time. There will also be occasional class participation, during which students can share their answers/experiences. Parental Involvement: Adult help is recommended for young learners, depending on their prior piano experience and learning style. It is advised that siblings are enrolled in separate sections, unless one sibling is experienced and/or is known to not need adult help. Teaching Style: My teaching style is patient, warm, and enthusiastic. I want students to love piano as much as I do! Required Knowledge/Experience: It is recommended that students be familiar with the piano note names before class. (These can also be labeled before class based on the handout that will be provided.) If a student has no prior experience at all, they may need to have an adult available to help. Students must know the difference between their right hand and left hand. Music will be color coded (right hand is red, left hand is blue), so students who are uncertain of right vs. left hand may wish to use a marker or sticker to differentiate the hands. Please feel free to message me with any questions about the level/knowledge required for this course.

Raised on a dairy farm in the rural southern U.S., Ms. Julia is now based in New York City as a piano pedagogue and performer. When teaching, Ms. Julia’s largest and most immediate goal is to create a healthy growing space. To do this, she prioritizes maintaining a positive and energetic environment during lessons, and she creates individualized curriculum for each class. Whether students are learning classical music or improvising over chord charts, Ms. Julia stresses the importance of technique, attention to detail, and practice methods. In this way, her students are able to be independent in the time between lessons, and they gain the capability of learning pieces on their own without risk of injury.
