Learners will be taught part of a song each week. Over the course, we will cover four classical composers, note reading, rhythm counting, articulation, key names, and musical terms with practice worksheets and a slideshow sent to each learner so practicing can continue during the week between classes.
Mrs. Pauli has taught piano lessons for over 25 years after earning a Bachelor's in Music from California State University, Long Beach. She has been a teacher on Outschool since April 2020. She arranges music from the public domain and provides it to learners.
Homework Offered
We will be progressing through songs at a pace of one song per 2 weeks. Students who practice the songs between classes will have a repertoire of many songs by the end of the semester. Recommended practice time is 15-20 minutes per practice, four or five times between classes. If a class is missed, the recording will be available on our classroom page and the slideshow will still be emailed with the new song and homework.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Near the end of the term, an email will be sent to each learner with the recommendation for repeating the current class for mastery or moving on to the next class for more challenging material.Grades Offered
Piano Music Class 2 or similar experience Learners enrolling in this class should know: Treble clef and bass clef notes, Keyboard keys from Low G to High F, Sharps/Flats/Naturals and names of black keys, Be able to play both hands together.
Access to a piano or keyboard during lesson where the learners elbows are the same height as the keys. Keyboards on tables are often too high (chest or shoulder height) which can harm wrists and hinder movement. Students need to be able to see the classroom screen where the music will be shown in a slideshow while they are sitting at their piano. It is very important to make sure I can hear your piano and that it is not blocked by the background noise suppression through Zoom. **Please turn on "Original Sound for Musicians" in the Zoom audio settings before class. ** If you need instructions on how to enable this setting, please watch this youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZMRtrSsYY Students using a desktop or laptop can adjust this setting during the meeting. However, students using a phone or tablet must enable Original Sound before entering the class or I may not be able to hear your piano. Learners will get access to a class slideshow in their email with the songs and homework worksheets weekly for practicing. Learners will need a keyboard or piano and may like having paper and pencil.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Google Slideshow links for each lesson are provided after class to the learner's Outschool system email. Music slides may be printed for practicing off screens. Any youtube videos posted on the Classroom page will be opened in a small window on Outschool. Learners will NOT be asked to go to Youtube on their own.
