Class Experience

Hello, thank you for taking a peek at my piano and recorder class. I have taught piano for ages 3 - adult as well as group lessons for over 30 years for all levels! My teaching style is fun and engaging. I like to present learning the notes and symbols of music in a way that is easy to remember. Rhythm is taught so it is internalized so it will come naturally to the learner.

If you have piano books in your home, we may be able to use them. If you don't, we can use the songs I have written for beginner piano, download, and print, and then graduate to Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book, Book 2. During our first class, we will determine where to start, depending on your background in music. I like to discuss specific songs that older students want to learn how to play and make these a goal to aim for.

We will cover the below topics while learning each song:
- Key Signature
- Rhythm will be covered, first by clapping out the rhythm and then playing it on the piano or recorder
- Musical Notes
- Scales - no matter where the student starts their journey of music with me, whether they are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced, the learner will learn the scales pertinent to their level.

If you do not have a piano, bring in a keyboard, no matter the size. I have had early beginners start on a toy piano and bloom into top musicians! Soprano recorders can be purchased online for less than $10.

A few times per year, I will offer one-time recital classes for anyone who would like to sign up to perform in front of their peers. This helps in learning proper listening and performing etiquette during the recital.

I hope to see your learner in class:). If you do not see a time that I can accommodate, please message me, as I can accommodate other times, or check out my flexible beginner piano lessons for young ages at https://outschool.com/classes/little-musicians-beginner-piano-lessons-flexible-schedule-course-1-WZxGOg5u#usob8C3odM or my flexible piano and recorder lessons for older learners starting at age 8 and up at https://outschool.com/classes/elementary-music-class-with-beginning-recorder-piano-lessons-on-your-schedule-48tOtujI#usob8C3odM
