Class Experience

This flexible, one-on-one class structure is designed for beginner to intermediate piano students ages 5-9. This class will teach concepts including, but not limited to, navigating the keyboard, rhythmic fluency, note identification, musical symbols, and musicianship. Students will develop these skills while playing music specifically selected for their learning level. While mastering these music-specific concepts, students will be developing general skills including active listening, critical thinking, fine-motor skills, and self-discipline. Since this is a one-on-one class, the lessons will be tailored to each individual student's learning style, in a relaxed, fun teaching environment. The number of pieces, and the pace at which we work on them, will be determined by what is best for the individual student. No prior knowledge of the instrument is required, but regular practice on a keyboard or piano in the student's home is necessary between each weekly lesson. This class begins in mid-August and roughly follows a typical academic calendar, concluding in mid-October. Students have the option to sign up for Fall Term B, which begins after a one-week fall break, and concludes in mid-December with an online recital.
