Students review names of piano keys, finger numbers, rhythm and interval patterns to create beautiful melodies and basic but full-sounding chord progressions. A piano or keyboard size of 61 keys or more is recommended. Students can choose to perform their compositions throughout the course for their classmates. Class 1: Piano Note Names or Staff Review, Finger Number Exercises, Rhythm Clap and Count Class 2: What's in a C Major Scale? Intervals and Ear Training, Recognizing Intervals in Major Melodies Class 3: What's in an A Minor Scale? Intervals and Ear Training, Recognizing Intervals in Minor Melodies Class 4: Intervals that Sound Good in 5-Finger Hand Positions. (Based of Progression of Class: Harmony. 2 Basic Chord Progressions in C Major and A Minor More Chord Exploration. Class Performances.) Daily Practice Recommendation: 15 mins or more This class is a fun start to ear training so we won’t have time to explore note reading or be perfect recognizing intervals or chords at all times. This is more of a crash course for students to explore sounds! Some technical terms may be used without pressure to be memorized. Please signup for an ongoing private class through me or another teacher for music literacy and further study :) Keep in mind students will be all levels of "beginner" (early/mid/late). No teacher or student emphasizes the same things even if students are the same age and have played the same amount of years. All students will be in different areas of their piano study and will learn from each other. In other words, it's a masterclass setting!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Brigham Young University
Hi, I'm Ms. Grace. I teach beginner to advanced piano. I'm passionate about level, age-appropriate lesson books and pieces that fit my students' interests!
I started piano at age 5, as many classical pianists do. I studied with Rowan University piano faculty at age 15. While working on my degree at Brigham Young University, I took lessons in Vienna, Austria with faculty at the University of Vienna and the Vienna Konservatorium. In 2014, I graduated with a piano performance degree from BYU under Dr. Richard Anderson. Since then I’ve taught privately, judged in Encore and other regional competitions. I worked at the Utah Piano Academy for two years. I now run a piano studio full of happy, awesome kids. I am an active member of the Music Teachers National Association. I often prepare students for ABRSM, RCM, and local exams and events.
