Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everybody! I take pride and great joy in teaching music to students in preschool, Kindergarten and lower elementary grades. I love to focus on music and movement in my classes, as well as instrument play. I firmly believe that music is innately in every child (and grownup!) and that music is most easily learned through movement and hands-on play with all kinds of instruments. Most recently, my main focus is teaching music at the preschool-2nd grade levels, but have also taught middle school and beginning band, middle school choir, high school choir, and private piano, trumpet and voice lessons.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Northern State University, Aberdeen SD. In my time there I double majored in Vocal and Instrumental music, playing the trumpet, piano, singing and acting my way through school. I am also a certified Musikgarten teacher. I have continued to learn ever since that time, not only in the classroom, but from my students over the years.
I am pleased to say that I still play my trumpet in a community band in my town. I've played in the Centrury College Community Band since 2006, and since that time have had three children and we also have our own Springer Doodle boy who is the light of all of our lives! The life of this musician would not be complete without playing handbells, which I am privileged to do at church on the weekends.
