Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
In this engaging course, learners will review the alphabet with a chant, practice letter recognition, learn the short vowel sounds, consonant sounds, writing, and blending to start reading.
Interactive activities and bright visuals will keep students involved with their learning as we spin the ABC wheel and say the letters, practice writing, and play games to reinforce the lesson material.
The teacher will guide learners to participate as a group in all activities, so there is little to no downtime in this lesson! Learners will be encouraged to shout out letters, talk to the vowels, letters, teacher, and peers, make sounds, and join in hand gestures for a memorable, action-packed, 25-minute learning journey each week.
There will be a short review at the beginning of each class about other phonics sounds, but most of the lesson will focus on the specific sounds of the day and reading words using those sounds.
A Google Slide show will be screen shared by the teacher only. The Wheel of Names used for the ABC and review games will be screen shared by the teacher only. The learners will not click links, access anything outside the Outschool Zoom classroom, or log into accounts.
Homework is not given in this class, but students can spend 10-15 minutes outside of class reviewing the phonics learned in the weekly class.
Students are welcome to enroll in this course late. Each lesson is a stand alone experience.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn what sounds consonants make.
Learners will start to be aware that certain letters make certain sounds (phonemic awareness).
