In this ongoing course, students will learn important Kindergarten literacy skills such as phonics, vowel patterns, reading, writing and fluency. We will work on each of these skills throughout every lesson and each week will be grounded in a different short vowel. Each class we'll have a chance to share an object from home that contains the week's short vowel. We'll study short vowels through engaging digital slides, games and mini-books. Below is an outline of the class focus by week. June 3rd- Short a June 10th - Short i June 17ty - NO CLASS June 24th - Short o July 1st - Short e July 8th - Short u *At this point in class, I will continue if learners are interested. We would continue with word families (am, et, og, etc.) using the same classroom format. LOGISTICAL RECOMMENDATION - please help your child learn how to "unmute" themselves on Zoom. I have the ability to "mute" learners, but I cannot unmute. There are times throughout class that I have all students muted and then want to hear from learners individually. It's helpful if all students can unmute themselves with ease. MATERIALS: A day or two before class, printable materials for that week will be sent to each learner via the classroom homepage and/or student messenger. Please have a writing utensil available for all classes. TIME NOTE: I will open the classroom approximately 5 minutes prior to class, but will wait until the start time of class to let students into the classroom. Note: This is a consolidated version of my phonics short vowel class. If you're interested in going into a bit more depth see the following link: https://outschool.com/classes/phonics-for-beginners-short-vowels-through-reading-writing-+-games-fM6Dszql#us6tfy8Zda My classroom is a safe place full of engaging and fun learning! I am energetic, patient and kind. I try to encourage lots of student output in different ways to include all types of learners (song, movement, sharing, reading). There is no required experience or knowledge learners need. Come ready to learn and have fun.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of short vowels and their ability to read and write these words.
