Hi friends! I can't wait to take you to the 'zoo' to learn about phonics! We are going to have so much fun learning the letter sounds in this interactive course, how to write letters, and even start sounding out words. I will be using a mix of the Zoo -Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears curriculums in this literacy program. I have had multiple trainings in both programs, and I used them for several years when I taught in-person Preschool. This class will meet three times a week, and we will go over one letter per class. You may join this class at any time, and we will repeat the letters when we finish with Z. We will learn the Zoo-Phonics chant and practice it every class time. This chant reviews the letter sounds. Part of the Zoo-Phonics program is stressing the importance of the sounds of each letter vs. the name of each letter. Although, students will learn those, too! CONTENT: Each class, students will practice a different letter. Class will start by discussing the zoo animal of the day. Then, students will learn and review the Zoo-Phonics sounds and motions. Students should bring an item each day that starts with the letter of the day. For example, asparagus on A day (feel free to get creative!) We will make a list of words that start with that letter each day. Students will practice writing the letter of the day using Handwriting Without Tears terms (see the sources section for more info). I have provided a worksheet in the class supplies that they will use to practice writing. The Handwriting Without Tears method teaches the writing of capital letters first, because they all use the same shapes, they are easier to write, and they all start and stop on the top and bottom lines. Next, students will engage in the activity of the day. Activities are listed in the supply list below. Finally, we will finish each class by singing the song "Come Meet Us at the Zoo" from the Zoo-Phonics curriculum. Please see the classroom Supply List for weekly session topics. Supplies: Each class, students will be asked to bring something to share that begins with the letter of the day. They will also need the letter tracing worksheets and their letter shapes. Please check out the Sources and Supply List for more information, and let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you in class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Washington State University
Hi, friends! My name is Teacher Angela, and I love teaching early learning classes. My classes include topics of early literacy, STEAM, circle time, and full curriculum classes. I have been working with kids as long as I can remember. I have babysat, been a nanny, and helped look after my 6 younger siblings.
I have my Bachelor's degree in Human Development, with a certificate in Child Development and Care. I have worked with preschoolers since 2010. Some of my roles have included teaching preschool, and acting as a Program Supervisor and Director of a child care center. I helped develop curriculum for the classrooms and helped grow the preschool program as a whole. I have worked with many curriculums, and I have training in Zoo-Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears. I also taught ESL online for 2 years. I am currently finishing my master's degree in Elementary Education.
My teaching style is to encourage conversation, engagement, and fun in the classroom. I think it is important for kids to have opportunities to share and interact. I also think it is so important for kids to have fun learning! Learning shouldn't just be through worksheets and homework, it should involve motions and play! In my classes, we will have so much fun learning. We will go on adventures, sing songs, do lots of arts and crafts, complete experiments, and use lots of movement. Some of my favorite book characters are Pete the Cat and Little Blue Truck. I can't wait to meet you in the classroom! :)
