In this 10-week course, learners will be transported to the land of Egypt! Through interactive lessons, fun activities and projects, your child will explore the daily life, society, religion, achievements & legacy of the ancient Egyptians.

1 hour per week. 📝 Homework will be assigned weekly. Given the self-paced nature of this (pre-recorded) class, completion of assignments is required before advancing to subsequent lessons. This ensures that prior content is thoroughly understood as it will be revisited at the beginning of each class. Learners will be able to share their completed assignments through Outschool's messaging system or by posting on the Outschool Classroom. Below is a list of homework assignments that will be set weekly throughout this course. Week 1 - An Introduction to Ancient Egypt 🪞Draw a self portrait in the style of Ancient Egyptian art, with your profile and body in the traditional pose. Colour your portrait and write a few sentences about yourself. Week 2 - Life Along the Nile: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt 💻 Research and write a report on a specific aspect of daily life in ancient Egypt such as food, clothing, housing or family life. Create visual aids such as drawings or diagrams to accompany the report. Week 3 - Meet the Pharaohs: Rulers of the Land 👑 Research and create a profile of a famous pharaoh, including details such as their reign, accomplishments, family and legacy. Present the profile in a creative format, such as a poster, PowerPoint presentation or short biography. Week 4 - Gods and Goddesses: Exploring Ancient Egyptian Mythology 💬 Choose a myth or legend from ancient Egyptian mythology and retell it in your own words. Create illustrations or a storyboard to accompany the story. Week 5 - Building Marvels: Pyramids, Temples, and Tombs 🛕 Design and build a model of an ancient Egyptian pyramid using craft materials such as cardboard, clay or sugar cubes. Include details such as chambers, passages, and hieroglyphic inscriptions. Write a short description explaining the purpose and significance of pyramids in ancient Egypt. Week 7 - Decoding Hieroglyphics: Writing in Ancient Egypt ✒️ Practice writing simple messages or sentences using hieroglyphics using our hieroglyphic charts to decode and translate messages and create your own! Week 8 - Exploring Treasures: Art and Artifacts of Ancient Egypt 💍 Create your own piece of Egyptian-inspired jewelry using beads, string or paper. Take a photo of your creation and explain your thought process behind the design. Week 9 - Celebrations and Festivals: Holidays in Ancient Egypt 🖍️ Create a colorful poster for one of the festivals you have learned about. Include drawings of the activities, decorations and food that might be part of the celebration. Make sure to add a few sentences describiung the festival! Week 10 - Ancient Egypt Today: Discovering the Legacy of the Pharaohs 🧰 Choose five small items that you would put in a time capsule to teach future generations about life today. Draw a picture of their time capsule and its contents and write a short description of why you chose each item.Assessment
💻 Diagnostic questioning is used at the the start of the course. This is where specific questions are used to assess students' prior knowledge, understanding and misconceptions about a topic before instruction begins. 📋Formative (on-going) assessment are conducted throughout the duration of the course. Weekly quizzes are administered in class to assess student understanding of the material. In order to cater to all learner needs, these quizzes range from multiple choice, 'fill in the blank', matching, true or false and written questions.Class Experience

🐪 Content Summary 🐪 Embark on an exciting journey through the sands of time as we delve into the mysteries of one of history's most captivating civilizations! In this 10-week course, young historians will uncover the secrets of the mighty pharaohs and the towering pyramids they built. Through interactive lessons, captivating visuals and engaging activities, learners will unravel the stories of legendary rulers like King Tutankhamun and Ramses II, and marvel at the architectural wonders of the Great Pyramid of Giza. From deciphering hieroglyphics to exploring ancient tombs, this class promises to ignite curiosity for this remarkable civilization. All of my history classes plan in opportunities for students to develop 'Historian Skills'. This refers to the skills of: 1. Comparing & contrasting 2. Grouping & sorting 3. Analysing sources 4. Historical enquiry 5. Sequencing events chronologically 6. Conducting research 🚨Please note: this course follows the UK Primary National Curriculum and the objectives outlined in their 'Ancient Civilisations' history unit. An Introduction to Ancient Egypt
In this lesson, you will learn about the geography of ancient Egypt, a timeline of ancient Egyptian history, covering key periods such as the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom.
Lesson 2:
Life Along the Nile: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt
In this lesson, you will discover the importance of the River Nile, learn about family life and the roles of men, women and children, explore the education system, discuss the different types of jobs that existed (including farmers, craftsmen, scribes, and government officials) and describe the types of games, sports, and entertainment that ancient Egyptians enjoyed.
Lesson 3:
Meet the Pharaohs: Rulers of the Land
In this lesson, you will work towards answering the question, 'Who is a Pharoah?', learn about the divine status they held, be introduced to the various titles and symbols associated with pharaohs, learn about some of the most famous pharaohs in ancient Egyptian history (such as King Tutankhamun, Cleopatra and Ramses II), discuss the responsibilities of pharaoh and lasting legacy of pharaohs in ancient Egyptian culture and history.
Lesson 4:
Gods and Goddesses: Exploring Ancient Egyptian Mythology
In this lesson, you will learn about the importance of religion in ancient Egyptian society, be introduced to the ancient Egyptian creation myth, explore some of the most important gods and goddesses in ancient Egyptian mythology, discuss the attributes and symbols associated with each god and goddess and how ancient Egyptians worshipped their gods and goddesses through rituals, ceremonies, and offerings.

Welcome to 'Pharaohs and Pyramids: Exploring Ancient Egypt!' This course is designed to provide an engaging and educational exploration of one of the world's most fascinating ancient cultures. However, I want to inform you that some of the course content will include discussions around mummification, embalming and discussions around ancient Egyptian beliefs about death and the afterlife.
The inclusion of these topics is essential to provide a comprehensive understanding of ancient Egyptian civilisation, as these practices were integral to their culture and religious beliefs.
As always, I will approach these subjects with sensitivity and ensure that they are presented in an age-appropriate manner. However, I highly recommend parents and guardians review the course materials and discuss these topics with their children to provide additional support and context.
