Class Experience

Enjoy captivating pet tales, chat about pets and the animals we *wish* were pets, boost essential ELA skills, and discover facts about animals and their care in a summer Storytime and book club for emerging readers! Check the class description for our books.

This book club with a Pets theme is fun and explorative with a familiar and friendly Storytime feel! It offers the chance to read two books and enjoy a comfortable transition to a reading class or book club for younger readers.

This is a group of friends! Sit in a chair or on the floor to create your very own "circle time." Feel free to bring a snack or bottle of water to class, and definitely bring your toys or stuffies to share! For this session, we are sharing pets and "wish pets."

This class is designed to foster a love for reading and challenge readers, while boosting socialization skills, English language arts skills, and literacy skills. Goals are accomplished through listening, word recognition, and discussion. Kids who love animals and sharing with their friends will love this class!

------

While the books are the stars of the class, during my book clubs, we will have discussions, imagination sessions, learning activities, and sharing portions where we share toys and stuffed animals. There are times I may send parents a message ahead of the class about optional dressing up or bringing a prop to help dive into the theme of the book.

During and after readings, I will ask the students explorative questions. I will incorporate supportive imagery, activities, or details to help enhance learning depending on the book's themes or overall stories. If I have any suggestions about learning beyond the class using the book or book theme, I will share them with parents through messaging.

Our Last Pets class was on 7/7 at 6 PM ET. During Pets Week, we read:

"Pets" by Jill McDonald
"How to Catch a Unicorn" by Adam Wallace

Stay tuned for new class times! Please let me know if you have any questions or a class time request!

Learning Goals

I aim for students to learn to enjoy reading! Here, we foster imagination and creativity. We will improve on critical skills for this age group and strengthen communication and socialization.
