Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this 4 time book club, the learners will actively listen to a fiction Pete The Cat story by Kimberly and James Dean. The stories will be read with fluency and expression with chances for the students to interact with the text and make predictions about what will happen next. We will talk about the author and illustrator. The students will be encouraged to discuss characters and identify the problem in the story. We will discuss reading the words as well as reading the pictures to gain a better understanding. The students will learn why it is important to retell a story in the correct order. They will sequence the story using the words: first, next, then, last/finally to strengthen comprehension skills. The students will be encouraged to make text to self connections. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom. My name is Betty Nilssen. I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I incorporate math, writing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers, as well.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started! Use code: BettyNi2020 at checkout to try your first class and get $20 off. Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop their academic skills and gain academic confidence. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child! Mrs. Nilssen
