Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
New to IEW or looking for additional guidance and support? Maybe, you just want to actually enjoy learning and feel confident about your writing. Well, guess what? I'm here to help! In this ongoing course, we will meet weekly to address your IEW skills, questions, or concerns. Since this is a learner-led tutoring course, the topics may include: *Structure skills: MLA formatting, titles, setting up essays, topic/clincher sentences, etc. *Style skills: dress-ups, sentence openers, doubles, triples, etc. *Unit-based skills: Unit 1: Note-making and outlines Unit 2: Writing from notes Unit 3: Retelling narrative stories Unit 4: Summarizing a reference Unit 5: Writing from pictures Unit 6: Summarizing multiple references Unit 7: Inventive writing * Please note the last two units of IEW's curriculum are for advanced learners familiar with IEW. These units are typically reserved for 7th graders and older learners. Unit 8: Formal essay models Unit 9: Formal critique and response to literature How does an ongoing course work? * We will meet up at the same time on the same day each week for as long as you need help. Each meeting is learner-led allowing us to adapt to your needs as needed. How does one-on-one tutoring work? * Tutoring time will be focused on assessing and addressing your student's ELA needs. This includes any areas you are struggling with as well as any homework help. * Before our first meeting, I suggest messaging me regarding the areas of concern that you would like to focus on during class. (If it is homework help that the student needs, please attach the homework assignment so I can make sure we are working within the teacher's guidelines.) * During class, you will have an opportunity to talk about areas where help is needed most. I will compare this to the notes sent from the enrolling adult and focus on the areas of greatest concern first. * After class, I will send detailed feedback letting you know how you did, any areas of concern, and additional resources, links, or tools (depending on the session and tutoring need) so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. Please note that the price for this class includes 1-on-1 writing time in class AND customized IEW lessons AND personalized feedback on your child's work. I look forward to working with you soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from University of Tennessee - Knoxville
I LOVE English! No, really I do. :)
As an IEW Registered Instructor, an TEFL/TESOL English teacher, a classical co-op tutor, and a homeschool mom I have taught thousands of learners the "art" behind the English language. Most of my classes on Outschool center around English grammar, writing, and literature so I would be more than happy to help you with any of those areas.
I love learning and growing, even as an adult, so during my downtime, there's a good chance you might find me with my nose stuck in a book.
