This class encourages children to perform poetry! Poetry can be exciting, funny, sad, fast and furious. Performing with feeling and expression, maintaining eye contact with the audience, speaking with feeling and expression and following along with the poems rhythm.Class Experience

Intermediate - Advanced Level
Performance Poetry by some of the great poets of our time. This class encourages children to perform poetry! Poetry can be exciting, funny, sad, fast and furious! Performing with feeling and expression, maintaining eye contact with the audience, speaking with feeling and expression and following along with the poems rhythm. Break the poem ‘apart’ to recite it in an easy way with rhythm, rhyme, colour and tone. Learn about the poet and their style of poetry with a short presentation. Handouts will be provided. What is figurative language? Use your ‘poetry toolbox’ to become a ‘poetry detective’ to understand what the poet means. Our poets will be: Michael Rosen, Roald Dahl, Joseph Coelho, Lewis Carrol.
Learning Goals
Learn about the meaning of metaphor, simile and all types of figurative language. How to recite a poem to bring it to life and give it meaning.
