In this class, students will be taught the Pythagorean theorem, which is used to find side lengths that are missing for right triangles. The first ten minutes students will be introduced to the Pythagorean theorem, and the easiest way to draw right triangles. I will make sure students know how to match up the letters, a, b, c to the correct side. Students will go through in ten minutes examples with the teacher. We will be going over square roots since they are used in the Pythagorean theorem, but background knowledge on square roots is necessary. Students will practice drawing and finding missing lengths of a right triangle for the next fifteen minutes. The end of the class will be used for a review game. I will provide learners with extra practice that they can do on their own time if they still need extra help after this one time class. This class is mean to help students become confident and to understand the important in mastering a method in math instead of just getting to the right answer.
Learners will review how to calculate a square root, and how to use Pythagorean theorem correctly to find missing sides of a right triangle. No Calculators! Just Paper and Pencil!
I graduated from Rider University in New Jersey with a double major in Math and Elementary Education, a double minor in Early Childhood Education and Entrepreneurial Studies, and certifications in Technology and Middle School Math. Math has been a passion of mine since I started grade school. I have many courses on Outschool of different math topics for a variety of ages. My goal is to grow a child's confidence in the subject area, and help them to realize the important in mastering the method and not just getting the right answer.
