Class Experience

This class covers the way we use personal pronouns in the English language and how it relates to gender expression. 

In this course we will cover:
- What personal pronouns are
- Grammatical rules for personal pronouns, including why singular 'they' is grammatically correct 
- How people often use pronouns to express their gender identity
- Tips to remember someone's pronouns that you haven't heard before or that have changed recently
- What to do when you use the wrong pronouns for someone 

This is largely a teacher-led class and includes a short video and slides, but questions and conversations from learners are encouraged! Learners do not need to have any prior knowledge of personal pronouns to take this class.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of what personal pronouns are, the grammatical rules surrounding personal pronouns, how we can use pronouns to express our gender identity, and how we can be respectful of other people's pronouns.

I'm a full time ESL teacher for children ages 5-12 and I hold a Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and an advanced TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification. I have a BA in English and I'm currently pursuing my MA in teaching English to secondary students. 

I'm the parent of a gender expansive child, I have a spouse in the LGBTQ+ community, and I'm involved in LGBTQ+ activism to support my family and all people in being their most authentic selves.
