In this Level 1 series, students will learn how to use pencil sketching techniques to draw popular anime characters. They will use proper sketching, shading and blending techniques. This class will focus on the head and face. Students will start with head angle study and how to detail each facial features like eyes, nose, mouth and ear. Instructors will demonstrate how to identify basic shapes within a character's head, facial measurements and proportions, facial expressions with eyes, eyebrows and mouth, hair, etc. While approaching a new character every week, students will also learn how to take one anime or manga style face and tweak its features and expression to give an appearance of a different personality. We will also discuss hairstyles that are well suited for each character type. Week 1 - Face Study - Students will learn the construction ideas for mapping out the face and features. We will discuss several techniques for understanding front and side planes, and how facial features are impacted when in various perspectives. Week 2 - Head Angle Study - Students will study how the head connects to the neck from the front and back. Then they will explore how the head shape changes when it is in various angles and perspectives. Week 3 - Todoroki from My Hero Academia (front view male head, level face) Week 4 - Itachi from Naruto (front view male head, level face)
