Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Ms. AJ has an M.S. in Teaching & Learning, an M.A. in International Education with a focus in Peace & Human Rights education, a B.A. in Political Science, spent a summer shadowing various UN organizations in NYC, and is certified to teach 7th-12th Social Studies. She completed her Masters' thesis at Columbia focused on teaching difficult histories to middle school students.
Some content in this course may be difficult for students. We will be discussing refugees, conflict, immigration, and social justice from an academic viewpoint. While students are welcome to express opinions and beliefs surrounding this topic, the teacher will not tolerate hateful speech or actions from any student.
