30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn how a song is organized. The class with be spent singing and discussing with a little formal instruction time. Students should be somewhat familiar with normal children's songs such as "The Wheels on the Bus" and "Old MacDonald." We will be singing together as a group and students will not be required to sing solos. If they want to share a song that follows the same pattern that we are discussing, they are encouraged to share it, but if other students in the class know the song, they are encouraged to join in the singing. There will be lots of singing and some discussion as we think of connections in our own experiences. This is a higher level thinking activity to develop not just rote learning, but using the information you learn to connect with things in our own world. This is for young learners, but will have them thinking 'outside the box' or what they normally would think or be asked to think about.
Learning Goals
The students will enjoy singing and look at the patterns in children's songs. They will then be asked to think of others songs that follow the same patterns.
