Description

Class Experience

Students will gain skills in the following areas:

- public speaking
- sharing thoughts and insights
- building vocabulary
- knowledge of historical people and events
- exploring the character qualities necessary for being a world changer
- understanding where the character studied is on the timeline of history
As a history buff myself, I was on the hunt for historical biographies for very young children. I wanted something in story or picture book form. When I found these, I knew I’d struck gold. I have personally read and discussed every single one of these books with my kindergartener. She requests them to be re-read again and again. They are outstanding.
Before class, student is encouraged to read the book we will be discussing, or listen to the audiobook.
Each week, in addition to hearing the story read and discussed, students will be given additional resources and activities for optional further exploration and discovery. Students will need a copy the book for the class, whether purchased or a library book. Audiobooks can be purchased from Amazon/Audible for a very low cost. Books schedule for this book club: (in order of reading) I am George Washington I Am Benjamin Franklin I am Abraham Lincoln I Am Harriet Tubman I Am Amelia Earhart I Am Neil Armstrong I Am Marie Curie I Am Albert Einstein I Am Jane Goodall I Am Leonardo da Vinci I Am Frida Kahlo I Am Rosa Parks I Am Martin Luther King Jr I Am Jackie Robinson I Am Walt Disney I Am Helen Keller I Am Sonia Sotomayor I Am Jim Henson I Am Anne Frank I Am Lucille Ball I Am Oprah I Am Malala Yousafzai (released 2/8/2022) I Am Muhammad Ali (released 2/8/2022) I Am I.M. Pei (released 6/7/2022)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
You will know your learner is learning when they talk non-stop about these outstanding books!
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The author approaches topics such as racial tensions and women’s rights in a very tactful way. Parents are always encouraged to read the books beforehand.
