Class Experience

Students need to first finish studying book 1 and 2 from the book series called "kuài lè hàn yǔ/快乐汉语”. This class is to study book 3 of "快乐汉语“. We will have 15 lessons for this part 1 course. The content from book 3 is more challenging and some pages in the book don't have the help of "pīn yín", when it comes to reading Chinese. So, students need to be prepared to read Chinese characters without "pīn yīn". Each text book lesson would take two weeks to finish. Students will play "Quizelet Live" as teams or individuals to have some fun as a way of reviewing Chinese they have learned in class. Students would be assigned to the breakroom to practice Chinese conversation with one another. Students would repeat after the teacher for new Chinese vocabulary and are always encouraged to make his/her own Chinese sentences or questions, based on newly learned words or phrases. Lastly, this class requires purchasing the Chinese text book.

Learning Goals
In this class, students are exposed to more Chinese vocabulary, phrases and more grammar, so that they can expand simple Chinese sentences into longer ones. Students will learn a bunch.
For example:
1. How to say where I am from? How to ask people "Where are you from?" ...etc.
2. I would like to do a part time job. Except English, I also speak Chinese/French/German...etc.
3. Let's call him. He has a bicycle, but he also drives...etc.
4. There're a lot of kites at the plaza. There're a lot of museum in Beijing. I like to go to the museum...etc.
5. I'm a local. Police station and post office are not too far from here...etc.
6. This is my new home. My house has air-conditioning, a fridge, a washing machine, carpets, a vacuum cleaner, closets...etc.
7. I would like to go to the supermarket to buy food...etc.
8. I would like to send him/her a present. I'm at the department store. I want to buy a camera...etc.
Students can learn so much more than those are mentioned as above.

Attention: If your child has never had any experience with the Chinese language, please DO NOT enroll him/her in my text book classes. It's better to enroll him/her in my 4-week, 6-week or 8-week beginner classes first. Thank you for your time reading this note.

I have been teaching on Outschool since September in 2016. Quite a few moms have expressed their thankfulness for inspiring their kids to learn Mandarin Chinese. Some of my students even teach their family members how to count in Chinese. Some sing Chinese songs all day at home, after they learn some Chinese songs in class. I am certainly always happy to hear all the positive feedback and stories.

Now, the following is something about me:
I have taught quite a few homeschooled kids and their moms. I also teach grown-ups and people with different nationalities on line. I have a Bachelor's degree in language arts. I can teach traditional and simplified Chinese and I grew up in Taiwan. Now, I'm based in the US. I enjoy teaching Chinese immensely and I am passionate about making learning fun. My own kids, at 15 and 20, are bilingual in English and Mandarin, they were born and are raised in the US. I am my kids' Chinese teacher. I also teach them math, French, some dialects and other subjects at home and on the road. I often explain math in Chinese, like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division...etc. We also do a lot of story time in multilingual languages with children's picture books. I like traveling and learning other languages. I also like to watch documentary film, crime programs and Nova channel on TV. I also enjoying taking a walk.
I engage young students with games, stuffed animals, toys and singing some children songs to make lessons fun. At the end, kids are motivated to learn more Chinese. I am originally from Taiwan. I speak Mandarin Chinese(native), Hakkanese(a dialect), Taiwanese(a dialect), English(fluent enough), French(upper intermediate conversational level). I know Italian( a lot of words), Spanish( a lot of words). I'm learning German, Japanese and Cantonese currently. If I am not teaching on Outschool, I sit down to create my own Chinese curriculum and, learn different languages, to have a walk and once in a while go out for dinner with my family...etc. Since the end of 2019, I started to paint with some help of Youtube tutorials.
Thanks/Xie Xie/Merci/Grazie/Gracias/Danke.
Note:

1. If you ask me how I teach my lessons, I encourage my young students to sing songs and to be as silly/funny as possible and to have a relaxing attitude in class. I encourage students to sing the Chinese vocabulary and sentences out, it does help memorizing Chinese.

2. I post Chinese worksheets in the classroom mainly for students to practice writing Chinese characters, but my homework is optional. If students would like to practice writing Chinese characters, it would be great. It's also fine, if students don't feel like practicing writing Chinese characters.

Thanks/Xie Xie/Merci/Grazie/Gracias/Danke
Notes :
1 – certains parents m’ont contactée pour savoir si je pouvais donner des leçons privées en ligne, la réponse est OUI.
2 – Si vous me demandez comment j’enseigne, je vous répondrai que j’encourage mes jeunes élèves à chanter, à ne pas craindre les maladresses et à avoir une attitude décontractée en classe. J’encourage mes élèves à chanter le vocabulaire chinois et les phrases chinoises, cela aide vraiment la mémorisation.
