Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this class, students will learn the basic foundation to strong paragraph writing! It will include constructing topic sentences, identifying and writing specific supporting details, and creating a conclusion sentence. Students will focus on one of three formats each week: descriptive, persuasive, or informative. Focus will be on conventions such as capitalization and punctuation and spelling, as well as complete sentences, fluid sentence variation, use of clauses and phrases, and being detailed and specific and on topic. I will use a scaffolding method and students should have access to Google Docs in order to be able to share their document with me in real time as they type for me to help with guidance and corrections and suggestions. Through Google Docs, I can highlight and notate areas of strength and areas to improve in real time. I encourage students to bring their own voice and questions to this class, and clearly state both areas they excel at with writing and areas where they would like to see improvement. Students can join into this class at any week. Students should feel free to bring any prompts they have from homework, or they can use the prompts I provide. My goal is to increase both confidence and skill level of my scholars.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to construct a strong paragraph in either descriptive, informative, or persuasive format with correct conventions and specific ideas.
