Paper, paper and more paper! Let's turn a 2 dimensional piece of paper into something fun and creative! In this ongoing 55 minute class, students will use simple materials like paper, scissors and glue to create unique and interesting creations. Each class will be a different project, introducing students to a variety of methods and techniques of using paper in different ways. Students should be able to use scissors and have access to materials. Each week, a theme and subject will be posted in the classroom along with suggested materials and optional materials. I will walk them through creating a new design, aid them with questions they may have and help them add their imagination into their piece. Paper is something we all have lying around and with a little help, we can turn it into a beautiful card, a gift for someone or a fun toy! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Let's make something you design and create! I am a doll maker by trade and own a small business selling eco friendly sewn toys. I have a background in textiles and art with a BS from Philadelphia college of Textiles and Science and have attended Massachusetts College of Art and Moore College of Art. While studying textiles in Scotland, I was inspired by their openness to experiment with random materials and craft in very different ways. This idea has stayed with me and has grown into an interest into many craft forms, playing with unusual and varied materials.
I started making Art quilts and Art dolls, some of which have been published. I spent years painting furniture, rooms and murals and love playing with faux finishing techniques and paint materials. I have always been interested in archeology and indigenous craft, and am inspired by their use of color and detail. On the side, I also design posters, flyers and logos for local non-profits.
I am, most importantly, a homeschooling mom of a 11 year old boy and I have been teaching kids, ages 3-10, at different cooperatives during the past 6 years. A big philosophy in my classes, is that there are no mistakes, only accidents we can learn and grow from. I have taught many classes ranging from Comic Books, Textile Arts, Paper Engineering, Paper Circuitry and Play n Learn Math to 2-D Art, Sewing, Mindfulness and Archeology. I look forward to sharing my love of cultures, art and craft with your kids!
