Discover how LEDs work, basic circuit elements, troubleshooting, and design in this hands-on class that will turn your kids into creative Makers. We will create a different paper circuit each week, from 3D pop-up heart cards that can beat, to pianos that can play colors instead of sounds. No background knowledge is necessary for this course, although those that have taken my Zombie Robots class will find the circuit element portion as a review. No homework is assigned in this class either. Students are welcome to troubleshoot and work on their paper circuit projects after class, however. Class outline: Week 1: Learning paper circuits with a 3D pop up heart card Week 2: Folded paper circuits with LED paper airplane templates Week 3: Popsicle stick lightsabers Week 4: Discovering new LEDs with a color piano circuit

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my wonderful world of hands-on science! I hold a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from Boston University, taught hundreds of learners in after-school programs or my free community science classes, and ecstatic to be a part of the Outschool community.
My paper circuits class is the first class I developed to teach elementary aged learners about circuit basics. These basics will help give learners a fundamental understanding that can be referenced, and built upon, in high school and college classes.
This class has been developed, and edited, over the course of three years - which means you get the product of a lot of practice!
