This class will be presented via pre-recorded drawing instruction. Students will upload images of their assignments for the teacher to see and comment on. This is particularly important if a final grade is required for homeschool or charter school credit.
Why Self-Paced?
*MY Self-Paced classes ALWAYS cost less than the live versions of the same class!
*Self-Paced classes are an excellent choice for families with busy schedules.
*Content is exactly the same as live classes, at a lower fee.
*Students can work at an independent pace.
*Self-Paced classes are fantastic for international students whose time zone doesn't match the teacher's (US Mountain Time),
*Self-Paced classes are a great alternative for students who are uncomfortable with live video chat.

Our Self-Paced format will be as follows:
Content: Video demonstration of the process will be posted. Videos will vary in length depending on the type of art being presented. Some may be as short as 10 or 15 minutes while others could be ½ hour or more. Student work is expected to take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, depending upon the student’s preferred pace.

Drawing Assignments: Students spend time completing their artwork and submit it via the classroom.

Submit Assignment: Students are required to post photos of their completed artwork in the classroom on the designated post. Keep in mind, uploading artwork for the teacher to see is important for assessment and feedback.

Detailed information regarding the content of each session can be found in the syllabus.

Once all assignments have been submitted, parents may request a letter or number grade if needed. Students may also receive a certificate of completion after parent has completed a class evaluation.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to create paintings from an unusual perspective: looking straight up from below.
Students will learn to paint two different types of backgrounds with blue watercolor paint: One that looks up at the night sky and one that looks up from underwater.

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Painting the Background for Sky at Night
Using blue watercolor paint, we will create a background painting using wet-on-wet technique to create the illusion of looking up at the sky at night. Students will practice drawing trees in preparation for the next class. To flatten paintings in between classes, once completely dry, students can place them under a stack of heavy books. Students will upload their paintings before the next class session.
13 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
Painting the Landscape
teacher demo and student painting of stars in the sky, using white paint and back end of paint brush, as well as painting trees and foliage in black silhouette around entire edge of paper (all 4 sides). Paper will be set aside to dry, and then shared in the classroom before the next class session.
18 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
Painting the Background for Underwater Scene
Using blue watercolor paint, we will again use the wet-on-wet technique, and applying additional techniques, this time to create the illusion that we are underwater, looking up at the surface. Once again, we will flatten dry paintings in between classes, under a stack of heavy books to flatten them. Students will upload their paintings and give each other positive comments on their efforts.
Students will select and practice drawing an ocean animal to paint next week, sharing their drawings in th

Lesson 4:
Painting the Underwater Scene
Teacher demo and student painting of a coral reef around the edges of the paper, with additional details of ocean plants an animals, as well as main ocean animal to paint in/near the middle of the paper. This will be set aside to dry, and shared in the classroom for final comments.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
