In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about 4 different women artists (Cassatt, Morisot, Bracquemond and O'keeffe) and create art pieces that are inspired by their work. We will talk about their genres of art, create pieces to be proud of, and learn about these unique artists through interactive games, virtual museum visits and scavenger hunts. 4 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Mary CassattLet's explore Mary Cassatt, an Impressionist painter, and her work "Summertime." Inspired by Cassatt, you'll create your own masterpiece using crayons and watercolors. We'll discuss color, composition, and using materials creatively. Feel free to interpret "Summertime" in your own style!Week 2Lesson 2Berthe MorisotLet's delve into the world of Berthe Morisot, a pioneering Impressionist painter. We'll explore her life and works, including the masterpiece "Girl in a Boat." Inspired by Morisot, you'll create your own Impressionist artwork using crayons and watercolors. We'll discuss the challenges she faced as a woman in art and the influence of other Impressionists.Week 3Lesson 3Marie BracquemondLet's meet Marie Bracquemond, a fascinating Impressionist artist you might not know! We'll explore her work and how it reflects the movement. You'll be inspired by her masterpiece "Small Landscape with House" to create your own Impressionist scene using crayons and watercolors. Feel free to add your own creative twist!Week 4Lesson 4Georgia O'KeeffeThis week, we're diving into the world of Georgia O'Keeffe! We'll explore her life and the inspiration she found in nature, particularly the stunning landscapes of the American Southwest. We'll then put our creativity to the test by recreating O'Keeffe's vibrant "Hibiscus with Plumeria" using watercolors and crayons.
Each learner will need: - A watercolor set - A brush (any size will do) - A cup with water to clean the brush - Set of crayons (or oil pastels) - Heavy white paper (watercolor paper is preferred but not completely necessary) - Table protection (newspaper, butcher paper etc). - Smock or old t-shirt to keep the paints off of your child's clothing
Parents are encouraged to be close by during the classes to help their learner with the painting process to minimize spills (especially with electronics close by!) and to make sure their paints and markers stay on the paper.
