Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
In this 4 week self paced class we will learn about 4 different artists (O'keeffe, Matisse, Van Gogh and Renoir ) and create art pieces that are inspired by their work and with a Fall theme! We will talk about their genre of art, create pieces to be proud of, and learn about the artists.

Learners will post pictures and/or video of their work (and their works in progress) on the classroom page so that the teacher can give feedback and encouragement on their pieces.

Here are the highlights for each week!

Week 1 - Georgia O'keeffe - We will discuss Okeeffe's interesting life as a artist in the Southwest region of the US. We will talk about her work and the scenery that she was inspired by. We will look at her Fall Leaves painting and then students will create their own Fall Leaves masterpiece using crayon and watercolor. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their piece based on one of her beautiful piece, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. They will post pictures of their work on the classroom page so that I can give feedback and encouragement to each learner.

Week 2 - Henri Matisse- We will discuss his various works and his life as post Impressionist painter. We will talk about his colorful and rich work and his style and how it differed from other artists at the time. We'll learn about Fauvism and the style that came with that. The students will create a painting based his Green Pumpkin piece.

Week 3 - Pierre Renoir - We will have fun exploring the artist Renoir. We will be looking at his Impressionist style that help to start the Impressionist movement (along with Monet). We will re-create one of his pumpkin paintings using crayon and watercolor and students will have fun adding their own creativity to their piece.

Week 4 - Vincent Van Gogh - During this week we will look at the artist Vincent Van Gogh. One of the most famous artists of all time! We will look at his life and how he created his post-impressionism and expressionism pieces with so much life and color. There's a reason that he is a favorite among many and his pieces are almost priceless. We will talk about his life and his work (age appropriate of course). We will re-create his Fall inspired landscape piece using watercolor and crayon.

The classes will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. The videos will be clear and provide at least 2 angles.

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
