Reading on Tuesday: Students will bring a favorite book to show us and discuss. Then, students will go into groups to choose a story to act out for story charades.

A little more about our semester-length pods:

ELA and Art:
Maria teaches our ELA and Art classes, and she teaches the fundamentals through instruction and practice. ELA focuses on students' skills in parts of speech, types of sentences, and some grammar. Students will work with Maria to co-write different types of writing.

Art classes focus on types of lines and shapes and use those skills in drawing and painting. Students will follow along with directed art projects, but there will be plenty of room for them to show their creativity.

Math and Yoga:
Amy teaches our math and yoga classes. Math is taught through PowerPoint lessons, instruction, and practice, and yoga is taught through stretching and games. Math focuses on essential grade-level skills. For 2nd grade, these include measurement, addition and subtraction to 100, telling time, skip counting, and more. Students will learn skills, practice with Amy, and then have a chance to practice on their own, following the "I do, We do, You do" method.

Yoga focuses on overall fitness, flexibility, and movement while having fun. Students will work on stretching and fun yoga poses, as well as playing movement games like Simon Says or Red Light, Green Light.

Reading and French:
Jordan teaches our reading and French classes. Reading is taught through reading in class and outside of class, and focusing on decoding skills and comprehension. French classes teach basic communication skills using fun topics, pictures, and activities.

Reading classes focus on decoding works and grade-level sounds and sight words, as well as comprehension skills. Students will read some books in class, as well as some on their own that we will then discuss in class.

French class is taught through a PowerPoint of pictures with the French words as well as props like our stuffed animals to practice conversations. We will also do art activities and play games to practice the vocabulary we learn, which will include greetings, colors, family, and more!
