Out of My Mind is an inspiring and uplifting book that is beloved by students and teachers. This small and affirming class will consist of discussions, learning activities, writing exercises, and group activities. PLEASE NOTE: Learners will need to do reading outside of class time. The book will be divided into manageable chunks (see below) and audio books are a welcome tool, if needed. Students will make predictions while reading, examine elements of plot, analyze character traits and motivation, assess genre, and explore theme and symbolism. ***Before our first meeting, please read Chapters 1-5.*** Meeting 1: Introduction to the author and the book Making Predictions Characterization ***Before our second meeting, please read Chapters 6-11.*** Meeting 2: Descriptive Language & Figurative Language Types of Conflict in Literature ***Before our meeting, please read Chapters 12-17.*** Meeting 3: Character Motivation ***Before our meeting, please read Chapters 18-23.*** Meeting 4: Sequencing ***Before our meeting, please read Chapters 24-29.*** Meeting 5: Compare and Contrast/Venn Diagram ***Before our meeting, please finish the book.*** Meeting 6: Text Evidence Meeting 7: Symbolism & Themes Meeting 8: Elements of Plot & Presentations

Hello!
I'm excited to teach English, Language Arts, and Social Studies through Outschool. I've been teaching in one form or another for over twenty years. I have taught all ages from early childhood to adult in public, private, and higher education school settings. I have a Master's degree in English and another in Montessori education. I have certifications in Montessori education (6-9 and 12-18) and Teaching English as a Second Language.
I believe in getting to know the student as a whole person, and meeting them where they are for the greatest learning success. I strive for an engaging and inspiring learning experience.
I live with my three children and our dog, Buddy. I can't wait to meet you!
