📖This ongoing weekly class will cover Sharon Draper’s Out Of My
Mind Series (3 books).
Book 1: Out Of My Mind/January 26th-May 11th
Book 2: Out Of My Dream/ May 18th-August 31st
Book 3: Out Of My Heart/ September 7th- December 21st
🔖The class will cycle back to book 1 in January 2026.
🔖If a student wants to join for only one or two of the books then
he/she can join the 1st day of the desired book.
🔖Book 1 Description: Out Of My Mind fiction series is about a
young girl who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was
born. She is unable to walk, or verbally communicate. She has lots
of words/thoughts in her mind but is unable to share with others.
The first book is written in the young girl’s perspective and her
transition into finding her voice and proving to others that she
belongs.
🔖Class Structure
📘For the first 30 minutes, students will be able to answer a fun
question then we will start reading the book aloud. I will give
opportunities for students to volunteer to read aloud if they
feel comfortable.
📘While we are reading the chapters, students will answer
discussion questions pertaining to the main idea, themes,
inference, etc.
🔖During the last 30 minutes of class, we will discuss character
perspectives and student perspectives.
🔖Homework
Two chapters will be read aloud in each class. If a student misses a class, he/she will
need to read the chapters on their own before the next class.

March 16th: Chapter 15 and 16
March 23rd: Chapter 17 and 18
March 30th: Chapter 19 and 20
April 6th: Chapter 21 and 22
April 13th Chapter 23 and 24
April 20th Chapter 25 and 26
April 27th Chapter 27 and 28
May 4th Chapter 29 and 30 (ORDER next book: Out of my Dream)
May 11th Chapter 31, 32, and 33
May 18th: New book: Out of my Dream/Chapter 1 and 2
⌛Parents will be notified two weeks prior to students starting the next book in the series.Learning Goals
Students will work on listening, oral, discussion, and thinking skills.Students will work on perspective taking skills to identify characters thoughts and feelings throughout each chapter.

Parental Guidance
Out Of My Mind book series does contain peer conflict situations such as being left out, discrimination toward individuals with disabilities, and the first book contains a scene in which a young character gets hurt in a car accident but the character is not severely harmed.
