Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this self-paced class, we will explore our solar system and create an interactive notebook to record our learning.  Part of the lessons will be on Nearpod which allows the students to get automatic feedback.  Each lesson will have a "lesson video" on the weekly topic, one or more Nearpod activities to review the material.

Some of the topics covered are:
What is a solar system?
      Learn about the parts of the solar system.   
The Planets in Our Solar System
          Learn about the planets that make up our solar system.
          Complete a flipbook of the planets.
Movement in the Solar System
          Learn how things move in our solar system.
          Complete a Day/Night Graphic Organizer.
          Complete an activity about shadows.
Our Moon
         Learn about our moon and its phases.
         Complete a spinner for the phases of the moon.
Learning Goals
Students will complete an interactive notebook to record their learning about the solar system.

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Our Solar System
 Learn about the different parts and objects in our solar system. 
Lesson 2:
The Planets
 We will learn about the planets in our solar system. 
Lesson 3:
Movement in the Solar System
 We will learn about how objects move in our solar system. 
Lesson 4:
Our Moon
 We will learn about our moon and the phases we see. 

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students will use scissors, glue, and brad brads for some of the interactive elements. Parent supervision may be required. (You may also choose to use a stapler on the planet flipbook for durability.)
Supply List
We will be completing an interactive notebook.  Students will need a notebook or binder to contain their work.  I will be sending pages to be printed each week in order to complete the activities so you will need access to a printer.  Students will need scissors, glue, colored pencils or crayons, and a brass brad (in week four).  (You may also choose to use a stapler on the planet flipbook for durability.)

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Spanish from Southern Illinois University in 1996.  I received my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Reading from University of Phoenix in 2010.  I have my TESOL certification and bilingual endorsement from the State of Texas.

I have taught Bilingual Elementary School for 11 years in grades 1 and 2.  I also taught Bilingual Intermediate grades 5 and 6 as well as a year of all levels of High School Spanish.  I have taught adult classes of ESL, GED classes in English and Spanish, and some basic business classes.  I also currently teaching children at various ages English as a second language online.  

I love to share what I know with others.  I especially hope to share my love of languages, reading, and writing with children.  I love the reach that is available by teaching online.  In my free time, I enjoy reading, riding horses, watching horse events, shopping at thrift stores for treasures, and traveling.
