In this ongoing course,learners will work on how to build larger words using Orton Gillingham(OG) method by learning the rules for spelling parts of words and practice by completing slides, practice pages and participating in challenges.
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 6
Class Content: Each week learners will come together to learn and practice spelling and vocabulary skills. We will begin with reviewing previous skills, introduce new skills and rules each session, do practice activities, and a challenge for the rule of the day. We will wrap up with a review of the skill for the session. Learner families will also receive additional practice pages and ideas for activities to do at home. Learners will increase their understanding of rules for spelling and reading in the English language and develop skills to spell larger words.
I have taught all elementary grades kindergarten-6th grade and am familiar with several different reading and writing curriculums. I am also an OG (Orton Gillingham) certified teacher. I have been working as a teacher for 10 years and with students in the school setting for almost 20 years.
Homework Offered
Learners will be provided with extra practice activities outside of class time.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I will be doing informal observations throughout the class and adjust activities as needed. If you need an official assessment please let me know prior to class.Grades Offered
Please let me know if you would like a grade for your learner prior to class. For this level of course, learners would receive a letter/percentage based grade.
We will be doing a lot of interactive activities during our class with flashcards, writing/tracing letters, interactive games, and practice to help all learners of all learning styles be successful.
Learners should have a solid foundation of phonics. This class will focus more on prefixes, suffixes, and roots with phonics skills embedded throughout.
Each week materials will be posted in the classroom prior to class to be printed off for learners to get the most out of the class. Learners will also need to have writing and coloring materials, scissors, glue, and paper nearby each time we meet.
Please be nearby during class in case of need of tech support, off screen. Only learners enrolled in the class can be on camera. We will be using scissors, glue, and coloring materials during class. Please supervise as needed for this class. We will be playing online games occasionally during class. Please be nearby to help your learner get it set up as needed.
All materials will be created by me using my experience as a brick and mortar and online teacher.
