Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will be taught how to correctly use the order of operations for math in a fun and engaging way. We will explore the meaning of Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction; and how to properly use the in a multi-operation math problem. Students will need to be familiar (not experts, but at least familiar) with exponents and how they work. Specifically, students will need to know that exponents mean that the base number is used as the factor, and the exponent tells how many times the base will be used in multiplication. (Example: 3 to the second power means 3 times 3) We will go through several guided problems together. Then students will have an opportunity to try some problems on their own before we check them at the end of class.

Learning Goals

Students will gain knowledge about how to correctly use the mathematical order of operations; including: grouping in the form of brackets and parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, and division.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my virtual classroom. I am really looking forward to meeting you!

My name is Annie and I'm from the rural community of Henrietta, Texas. Being a teacher truly is my calling. Both of my parents, and all four of my grandparents have all been in educational capacities of some form or another, so its only natural that I have followed their leadership.

I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications and a teaching certification in agricultural education. I am also Texas certified to teach core subjects grades 4-8. I have been a classroom teacher for nine years. My primary focus has been junior high mathematics; however, I've also taught Fine Arts and Innovative Studies. Though I love the concreteness of math, I also love to be creative.

In addition to expertise in academic subjects, I am a self-taught Do-It-Yourself Guru in everything from dip nail manicures to furniture restoration to acrylic and polygel manicures to home renovations and everything in between!

It is my passion to make learning fun!! On any given day, you can expect to see or hear my students singing songs, dancing, up and moving around the classroom as a part of lesson engagement, and working collaboratively.

I'm a big believer in building relationships with my students. "They won't care what you know until you know they care," is a quote that I live by.

In my spare time, I love to travel the world!
