Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Calling all entrepreneurs! Students will learn about entrepreneurship through planning a variety of businesses.

Day 1: What is an entrepreneur?  Open a Food Truck;
Choose the type of food truck, create a name and menu, design the truck and write about it!
Marketing; How to get customers to your food truck. Tell us about your food truck and why we should visit.

Day 2: Plan an Ice Cream Shop; What will you sell? Create a name, a storefront and a menu.
Who will you hire? What kind of employees will you need? What is a budget? How can you be profitable? Sales - Expenses = Profit.

Day 3: Open a Business of Your Choice! Design a logo, advertising and a shirt! What will you sell? What service will you provide? Tell the world about it and why they need to come to your business. Commercial recording is optional, but I will teach you how to record a commercial. It's very fun if you like technology!

Day 4: Open for Business! A day in business; Students will pitch their business of choice from days 1 through 3. Students listen about classmates' businesses, ask questions and give feedback. We will end with reflections. Would you want to be an entrepreneur?

Teacher expertise and credentials
Project based units are my favorite style of teaching. I have been a certified 3rd grade teacher for over 10 years and teach all of the elementary subjects, but there is curiosity and creativity that happens when you dive into innovation! I also love writing and these lessons have a way of sneaking writing into each day of working on a business.

In addition to a Master's in Education, I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Finance and had a career as a financial analyst for 10 years prior to teaching. I have experience in writing business plans, creating budgets, and calculating return on investments for capital projects. I love tapping into and spreading the curiosity of entrepreneurship for kids!
