We can always teach students how to be excellent writers. But, we forget to teach them to be entrepreneurs, self-reliant publishers who are proud of what they write. While this class will definitely focus on fine-tuning their writing, it's devoted first and foremost to the world of online publishing. The best part? THEY pick their niche, their topic of interest, and what they want to write about (though with some parameters). Through dynamic, step-by-step lessons that involve group discussions, collaboration, and reviewing some popular online publications, students will learn the following: * How to upload and publish content via WordPress, one of the most used online platforms for blogs across the planet. * HTML coding for images, footnotes, videos, and design elements. * Content marketing skills such as how to write posts that will be more visible to online users. * How to develop their own unique weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly "series," a widely popular trend in online publishing. * How to become self-editors and craft expert pieces on their own. * How to collaborate with other students to create awesome content! The first half of each session will introduce new elements that they'll apply in the later half of the class. Some of these elements might be group writing sessions, browsing for nifty and interesting blogs, looking at HTML codes and how they work, and the like. Students require no materials except for a pen (or pencil, whichever they prefer!) and a pad of notepaper. Each will be required to create their own WordPress account, which I'll help them out with!

I'm a freelance writer with a wide range of skills and mastery. I have an extensive background in tutoring students ages five to mid-twenties and have worked in many schools as a para-educator. I graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Language Studies and an election to America's most prestigious honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.
It's my genuine belief that if you give students the opportunity to succeed by demonstrating your passion, knowledge, engagement, care, and dedication, they will most often chose to succeed. I believe in staying objective and fair with all students, respecting differences in their learning methods, and knowing very well that each day is a new day: to start over, to learn something new, and to engage in the classroom.
I also believe, having been a freelancer for close to two years now, that accountability is an incredibly important aspect of the classroom experience because this teaches young people that there are consequences. That is to say, I don't believe so much in "punishments" so much as "responsibility" and "making things right." If a student is late on their work, that's fine, but they'll have to answer a short bonus question along with it. This kind of environment tends to keep morale high and expectations clear.
I've had incredibly positive experiences with my students. In anonymous reviews, I've gotten 4.5/5 stars on average, and am most noted for how approachable and enthusiastic I am. I love to engage with students, see what they're doing, what they want out of the class, and allow them to have fun with what they learn.
