Class experience
In this ongoing course, we will create artworks emphasizing the elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, space, & form), and the principles of design (pattern, balance, movement, unity/variety, emphasis, & proportion). We will also learn about master artists, fun facts, culture, & geography through art. We will apply various art techniques and media to create a variety of artistic experiences. The Awesomeness of Art provides several positive learning outcomes. By focusing on one art element and creating a relevant art project each week, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of how the elements of art are utilized in art as well as in life, and how together they provide the building blocks of art, as well as our world around us. Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills. Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion. Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create. Most projects will utilize common household materials. Supplies will be listed with each project in the description so that every family has plenty of time to collect the right materials.
Please be aware that we will use scissors in some of the projects. Please provide proper supervision at all times when using scissors or any other material. Food coloring may stain hands and/or clothing and surfaces. Use sparingly and with appropriate precautions. Synthetic scents & essential oils can be irritating to the skin.
